Fee Schedule
Approved by 2005 AGM, Timmins, ON
Rule 1 - Fees
Annual Membership Fees are due and payable to the
Ontario Professional Foresters Association on the first day of the
Associations fiscal year being December 1. New members will pay
pro rata fees according to when their application is accepted and
the months remaining in the current fiscal year.
a) Full Active Members
The annual fee for Full Active Members for Dec. 1, 2005 to Nov.
30, 2006 shall be $450.00 due upon receipt.
Fees may also be paid by one of the following options:
- Split Payment totaling $460.00 by post-dated cheques
dated Dec.1, 2005 and April 1, 2006.
- Pre-Authorized Payments totaling $480.00 @ $40.00
per month.
b) Life Members:
The fee for Life Members shall be a lump sum of $630.00 plus an
amount derived from the following formula: (1/2 rate of Full annual fees)
X (65 minus age in years). Note: 65 years and over to pay $630.00 only.
c) Honorary Members:
There shall be no fee for Honorary Members.
d) Non-Resident Members:
The annual fee for Non-Resident Members shall be one half of the annual fee for Full active membership ($225.00) due on December 1, 2005.
Fees may also be paid by one of the following options: Also see
Rule 1m), below.
- Split Payment totaling $235.00 by post-dated cheques
dated Dec. 1, 2005 and April 1, 2006.
- Pre-Authorized Payments totaling $255.00 @ $21.25
per month.
e) Associate Members:
The annual fee for Associate Members shall be one half of the annual
fee for Full active membership ($225.00) due on December 1, 2005. Fees
may also be by same options as Non-Resident.
f) Student Members and Provisional Members:
The annual fee shall be $25.00.
g) Inactive:
The annual fee for Inactive Members shall be at the rate of one half the
annual fees for Full Active membership ($225.00) due on December
1, 2005. Fees may be paid by same options as Non-Resident.
h) New Full Active Members and
Members Applying for Reinstatement:
Will pay pro rata fees according to the quarter of the year in which
the application is accepted.
i) Application Fee:
A fee of $200.00 shall accompany any application for registration
as a member of the Association, including those for reinstatement
of former members.
j) Registration Fee:
The application fee shall be deemed to be the registration fee when
the applicant has been accepted and registered.
In the case of an applicant who is not a graduate of a Canadian
University School of Forestry, the applicant shall, if the application
is accepted, pay out-of-pocket expenses as accrued by the Association
in processing the application, when the applicant is registered.
k) Examination Fee:
A fee for each examination tried under Article III, Section 3.03
of the By-laws shall be $75.00.
l) Fees in Arrears:
The Executive Director shall send first, second and third notices
to members showing fees due and payable, in conformance with Article
IV, Section 4.02 of the By-laws.
m) Non-Resident Membership:
A member must be a Full Active Member for a minimum of twelve months
before being accepted as a Non-Resident member. The Non-Resident
Membership fee takes effect at the start of the fiscal year following
acceptance of Non-Resident Membership.
n) Reinstatement: - Struck and Resigned members are subject
to a penalty equal to the annual fee for the year in which they
are reinstated.
0) Penalty/Late Fees - Payments not received on time will
be subject to an additional $50.00 fee.
Rule 2 - Reimbursement of Members
of Council Attending OPFA Meetings
The Association shall, if requested,
reimburse members of Council for attendance at meetings of the Association
for the exact cost of transportation, food and lodging, subject
to the approval of the Executive Committee.
Rule 3 - Reimbursement of Committee
Chairmen and Members or Editor at OPFA Meetings
Council is authorized to reimburse
Committee chairmen and Committee members as well as the Editor for
attendance at meetings of the Council or Committees or of the Association,
when deemed especially necessary, for the exact cost of transportation,
food and lodging, subject to the approval of the Executive Committee.
Becoming
An OPFA Member & Membership Categories
To obtain membership
in the Ontario Professional Foresters Association (OPFA) and
become a Registered Professional Forester, a forester must meet
specific educational and practical experience requirements, and
be sponsored by two other R.P.F.'s. For more detailed information
contact the OPFA at the address below. See also the Application
Forms, Sponsorship Form and Membership Standards.
The OPFA has eight categories
of membership. These include:
Every person applying for a certificate
of registration shall have reached the age of majority and shall
be of good character and may be required to show proof of these
qualifications when application is made. Registration may be subject
to any terms, conditions or limitations as determined by the Registration
Committee or by Council.
Member Categories
Full Active Member: An
individual who has achieved the right to be known as a Registered
Professional Forester, is qualified to engage in the practice of
professional forestry and who is entitled to all of the privileges
of membership in the Ontario Professional Foresters Association.
Non-Resident Member: An
individual who has achieved the right to be known as a Registered
Professional Forester, is qualified to engage in the practice of
professional forestry and who is entitled to all of the privileges
of membership in the Ontario Professional Foresters Association
and resides and works outside the province of Ontario.
Any Full Member who resides and
works outside the province of Ontario may apply for registration
as a Non-Resident Member. Membership in this category shall
be terminated upon the member resuming his/her residence or employment
in the province of Ontario, and he/she may be eligible for reinstatement
as a Full Member.
Upon application for reinstatement,
the applicant may be required to satisfy the Registration Committee
as to his/her knowledge of Ontario forest policy.
Provisional Member:
A individual who has applied for Full Membership and is in the process
of acquiring the necessary competencies.
Any person requiring additional
competencies to attain Full Membership may be granted Provisional
Membership. This category of membership may be retained for a maximum
of five years and shall be terminated by the end of the fiscal year
during which the person becomes eligible for Full Membership.
Associate Member: - see
Guidelines
for Associate Membership
An individual who is qualified
to engage in one or more specific aspects of the practice of professional
forestry.
Any person who wishes to continue
to engage in the practice of professional forestry as defined in
the Act, but who does not meet the qualifications for registration
as a Full Member, may apply for registration as an Associate Member
pursuant to the By-laws and in accordance with guidelines adopted
by Council from time to time. The applicant must be of good
character and repute and may be required to satisfy the Registration
Committee as to his/her knowledge of forestry theory and forest
policy which relates to his/her activities which fall within the
definition of the practice of professional forestry, and as to his
or her suitability to become a member of the Association and to
engage in the practice of professional forestry. Applications
must be accompanied by the recommendation of four sponsors, at least
two of whom must be Registered Professional Foresters who are currently
members in good standing of the Association.
Student Member: An
individual enrolled as an undergraduate in any post secondary, forestry-related
program.
Inactive Member: Any
Full Member who ceases to practice professional forestry may apply
for registration as an Inactive Member. The Registration Committee
will consider such applications based on the circumstances of the
situation and have the authority to set conditions of membership.
Inactive registration shall be terminated if the member becomes
active in professional forestry and is eligible for reinstatement
as a Full Member. Amended AGM 2004
Life Member: An individual
who has achieved the right to be known as a Registered Professional
Forester, is retired from practicing professional forestry and who
is entitled to all of the privileges of membership in the Ontario
Professional Foresters Association.
Honourary Member: An individual
who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of forestry
in Ontario and has been elected an Honourary member of the Association
by a unanimous vote of Council.
There shall be no fee for Honorary Members. No more than one
Honourary Member shall be elected in any given year and Honourary
Members shall comprise no more than one percent of the total Association
membership at any one time. Consideration of Honourary Membership
shall be initiated by nomination in writing by at least six active
Association members in good standing and all applications for Honourary
Membership shall be approved by the Recognition and Awards Committee
prior to Council election.
Honourary Members shall be exempt
from the payment of membership dues and shall have the right to
attend meetings, but not the right to vote.
