In
an effort to assist Internationally educated and trained OPFA applicants
in seeking membership in the Association, the OPFA is developing
a mentoring program. The OPFA recognizes the benefits of mentoring
and how it supports the goal of the organization and the Code of
Ethics. The initiative will support the professional standards that
candidates must attain in order to be accepted as a member in the
OPFA.
Mentors are expected to be Registered Professional
Foresters who have at least 10 years of Ontario work experience
in forestry. They have a demonstrated understanding of the Canadian
workplace culture and knowledge of the skills required to meet market
demands as well as an interest in being an active member of the
OPFA. Many of the mentors are fluent in other languages and some
have undergone the same processes for establishing themselves in
Ontario. Mentors are prepared to answer questions and offer advice
on a variety of subjects including how to apply for membership,
potential employment opportunities, reviewing resumes, etc.
For those applicants wanting to commit themselves
to the Mentoring program we suggest reading the program outline
and following the procedures suggested. Click here for a complete
list of available Mentors.
